Can I sell privately first and list on the MLS later?

Yes. Private marketing is a choice, not a commitment. You can move to a public MLS listing whenever you and your agent decide, and most homes that start privately do.

How common it is

Starting private and going public is the normal path. At one national brokerage, 94% of private listings eventually sold through the MLS. The private period was a first step, not the whole plan.

When to move to the MLS

  • Interest at your price is lower than you need.
  • You want the widest possible pool of buyers.
  • Your timeline is getting short.

What changes when you go public

Your home appears on public sites, with a public listing date and price history from that day forward. The private period before it is not part of that public history.

How it works on Chimpre

You approve private marketing with one signature, and you can change that decision with your agent at any time. If you go to the MLS, your agent handles the switch.

See who is looking for a home like yours

Chimpre introduces your home to agents whose active buyers are searching for a home like yours, in your area, at your price, with the space they need. Your agent shows you who is interested before anything goes public.
