How do Florida insurance costs affect selling my home?

Buyers price insurance into their monthly payment, and a buyer with a loan cannot close without a policy. Homes that are easy and affordable to insure sell more smoothly, so have your home's insurance information ready before you list.

Why it matters more in 2026

In a spring 2026 survey of 727 agents, 31% said climate-related risks such as insurance cost, flood and wind matter more to buyers than a year earlier. In the South the figure was 35%.

What helps a buyer insure your home

DocumentWhy it helps
Wind mitigation reportShows storm-resistant features that can lower the premium
Four-point inspectionMany insurers ask for one on older homes (roof, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling)
Roof age and permitsRoof age is one of the biggest factors in whether and how a home is insured
Your current premiumGives buyers a realistic starting point

What you can do before listing

Gather your current declarations page, roof permit and any inspection reports. Fixing a known roof or electrical issue before listing often costs less than the price reduction a buyer will ask for.

How it works on Chimpre

Your agent adds these documents to your listing, so buyer's agents can check insurability early and offers come in with fewer surprises.

See who is looking for a home like yours

Chimpre introduces your home to agents whose active buyers are searching for a home like yours, in your area, at your price, with the space they need. Your agent shows you who is interested before anything goes public.
